The dictionary

Going in France, it's like taking a bath of French. So, before leaving Quebec, I said to myself that I'm gonna notice every new words that I'll learn there. Here they are:

  • Dubitatif

    It means something doubtful.

  • Éphémérides

    They are a gathering of data (e.g. position, rise and set times, etc.) related to sun, moon, stars, etc.

  • Euphémisme

    It's a word or an expression that may have another meaning, or a shocking connotation, in a different cultural context.

  • Galet

    It's a pebble (in its common sense). But it's also a tool (in its prehistoric sense) and a caterpillar wheel (in its mechanic sense). It's also the name of professor of chemistery at the college (...that we got him crazy once...)

  • Hétérogène

    That means taking into account many factors at a time.

  • Homothétie

    It means scaling (i.e. proportionality).

  • Isotrope

    That means something that does not change no matter the direction.

  • Officieusement

    It means something that is not officially confirmed.

  • Oléagineux

    That means something that contains or from which we can extract oil.

  • Patibulaire

    That means something or someone that looks sinister.

  • Pavoiser

    That means to decorate something with flags. But it also means to crow.

  • Sophisme

    It is a raisoning that looks correct at a glance, but in reality, hides the truth.

  • Succinct

    That means something that is brief, short.

  • Synoptique

    It means something that allows to get a general idea (e.g. drawing).
