My journey in France...

The sights

From Dinard to Guildo, June 4th 2000. Nice images of the Côte d'Émeraude, West direction, down to the Ringing Stones.

I went to Dinard, aiming to ride along the coast in the West direction.

Not far passed Dinard is the St-Lunaire village. Contrary to what its name implies, the landscape is furnished enough:

Then comes St-Briac, where there is a beach and among other things, un castle, an arch-typed bridge and a wind mill:

Finally, after some rings, I arrived at Guildo. I stopped at the Hôtel des Pierres Sonnantes (Ringing Stones hotel) to have a lunch. Here they are:

They are located in front of the Guildo castle (...at least, what was left of it...), on the Arguenon<s shore.

But what's special about those stones? Well, these metamorphic stones, when hit by a rock of the some type, emit a silvery sound.

The amphibolite (or calcium/magnesium silicate) is one of nature's toughest stone. Its density is such that it can scratch glass. Its molecular network composed of blocks, arranged in such a way that they seem suspended on other blocks that scarcely touch themselves, produce a cristalline sound (see the above video).

The legende tells that Gargantua passing through Guildo found himself suddenly embarassed. To releave its stomach, overloaded by the ringing stones he had swallowed by mistake, he spew them out.
