My journey in France...

Paris

Paris (August 19th and 20th 2000). The city of lights (there aren't that much though) and history; it is also the city of architecture, museums, monuments, lovers, etc. And partocularly in August, its is the city of the tourists.

Although we took the decision at the last minute, we found out a small hotel that allows us staying a couple of days in Paris.

Waken up (around 5h30) and left (around 7h10) soon from Rennes on a Saturday morning (with my umbrella ready to be open at the first drop), we arrived at Paris around 9h20. We traveled outside on Saturday and inside on Sunday due to the bad-looking weather.

Here is in details the summary of our travel.

Paris: yesterday and today

The city is divided into 20 urban districts that each holds a number. They are geographically distributed like a spiral, from the inside out. 14 subway lines (both underground and overground) cross the districts. Continued...

The Montparnasse building

That is where we arrived by train. One of the first destinations we wanted to go was the Eiffel tower. But being next to the top of Paris, we decided to climb it. Continued...

The Invalids

From the Montparnasse building, we went to the Eiffel tower. It is easier to find a path from higher than here below. But after having argued few minutes about some geospecific details with my colleague, we decided to take a common direction. Continued...

The Eiffel tower

The tower was not really visible until we arrived at the Fields of Mars: the buildings were hiding it. But from there until the tower's terraces, it gradually took some substancial importance in our field of view. Continued...

Let's take a break!

The subway now! While argueing once again with my colleague about knowing what line was passing in the area, finaly someone informed us on the closest subway entry. Continued...

The Notre-Dame cathedral

Majestic construction, flooded of different religous sculptures all over its facade. One realizes that Jesus was popular and had a lot of friends! Continued...

To the Place of the Concorde

From Notre-Dame, we made on our way to the Place of the Conconrde. From Île de la Cité (where we were) we had to get to the north shore first. Continued...

The Champs-Élysés and the Arch of Triumph

The time was passing quite fast and here we were at the end of the after-noon. We rode up the beautiful avenue. A strongly commercialized avenue though: no comparison with the previous Champs... However, one must concede that it is endowed of an immense architectural wealth. Continued...

The Louvre

Main target of Sunday: the Louvre. Yesterday was almost a poor weather, so we thought we gonna pass the day inside. Continued...

The City of Sciences

From the Louvre, we went to the other side of the city by subway. While leaving the subway, from outside, we could read an interesting title nonetheless attractive: "The Lorentz attractors". It needed no more to tease my curiosity and to rush inside! Continued...

The way back

We left Paris (around 19h15) and arrived in Rennes (around 21h30), half tired out from our trek in Paris. I expect to go back this fall.
